| | | | WELCOME | | | |
to Aero-notes 47, the Airbus newsletter for individual investors.
The year so far has been exciting here at Airbus. At the Annual General Meeting Guillaume Faury was confirmed as Airbus CEO. The day after he presented the new Executive Committee. Together, their goal is to better serve our customers, increase our competitiveness, and grow Airbus in a sustainable way.
Julie Kitcher, formerly Head of Investor Relations & Financial Communication, is now part of Guillaume’s team as Executive Vice President Communications and Corporate Affairs. The Investor Relations & Financial Communications team and I would like to thank Julie for her outstanding contribution to the team for more than ten years – her commitment and professionalism made a real difference. We wish her all the best for her new role.
I would also like to take the opportunity to (re)introduce myself. I have been with the Investor Relations team in the past taking care of institutional investors mostly. After a short stint I am now delighted to head the team and be in charge of all our investors and shareholders, no matter what size their portfolio. Let me finish by saying that you, our individual shareholders, are equally important to me!
In other news, you will find in this edition of the Aero-notes our Business Update. In the Discover section the future of flight is becoming a reality. And finally, learn about how Airbus engages in a more livable world in Responsibility & Sustainability.
Enjoy the read!

A380 – a modern icon
| |
| | Following a review of its operations, Emirates is reducing its A380 orderbook by 39 aircraft. As a consequence of this decision and given the lack of order backlog with other airlines, deliveries of the A380 will cease in 2021. Former CEO Tom Enders said: “Keep in mind that A380s will still roam the skies for many years to come and Airbus will of course continue to fully support the A380 operators.” In March, Japan’s All Nippon Airways took delivery of its first A380. Each ANA A380 will feature a special livery depicting the Hawaiian Green Sea Turtle, also known as the Honu.

| | | | | Urban Air Mobility (UAM): on the path to public acceptance
 | | | | A century ago, nobody ever would have imagined so many aircraft in the sky at any given moment. But today, our skies are busier than ever: current air traffic has quadrupled in the last 30 years and is set to double in the next 15. But how ready are people to see their sky filled with even more aerial vehicles – of various shapes and sizes – zipping around above their heads? A recent preliminary study on UAM public acceptance addresses that very question.

 | | | | | Airbus has begun shore-to-ship trials in Singapore with its Skyways parcel delivery drone. This marks the first time drone technology has been deployed in real port conditions to deliver a variety of small, time-critical maritime essentials to working vessels at anchorage. During the trials, Airbus’ Skyways drone will lift off from the pier with a payload capability of up to 4 kg, and navigate autonomously along pre-determined ‘aerial corridors’ to vessels as far as 3 km from the coast.

 | | The harpoon test to clean up space junk – right on target
| | | |
In February Airbus, SSTL and the University of Surrey successfully tested a harpoon designed to capture space debris. Travelling at a speed of 20 metres per second, the harpoon successfully impacted – and penetrated – the target panel, confirming its ability to capture space debris. The device was fired from the RemoveDEBRIS satellite, an experimental satellite designed and built – and operated in-orbit – by Airbus’ Surrey Satellite Technology Limited (SSTL) subsidiary.
