Airbus’ no. 2 BelugaXL oversize airlifter takes to the skies for the first time, commencing its maiden flight from Toulouse-Blagnac Airport – which is adjacent to the company’s headquarters in southwestern France
The next-generation BelugaXL oversize airlifter, a highly-modified version of Airbus’ proven A330 freighter variant, will enter service in 2019 transporting complete aircraft sections across the company’s European production network.
Keep up with key programme milestones as Airbus manages its BelugaXL through a rigorous certification campaign – which began in July 2018 with the no. 1 aircraft’s maiden flight – and creates a six-aircraft fleet that will succeed the five A300-based Beluga ST airlifters currently in service.
The latest milestone was marked 15 April 2019 with first flight of the second BelugaXL aircraft. Additional achievements are highlighted on Airbus’ YouTube channel.
