“The complexity and potential that stands behind AI, is something that has always captured my attention and curiosity. Since then, I knew I wanted to dedicate my career to Artificial Intelligence and its different application in our world.”
Alisa recently joined the Airbus family in 2019 as a Data Analyst for the Data Engineering department in Space Systems Friedrichshafen. So far, Alisa had the opportunity to work on several exciting projects, spanning topics like satellite data processing using deep learning; linked data and graph algorithms. Recently Alisa worked in classification of patients’ medical data to detect COVID-19.
Among her areas of operations, Alisa is actively participating in several working groups that focus on extending the usage of Artificial Intelligence and bringing it closer to the satellite projects.
Alisa’s fascination for Artificial Intelligence started shortly after the beginning her computer science studies at the Ss. Cyril and Methodius University, Skopje, in Macedonia. “The complexity and potential that stands behind it, is something that has always captured my attention and curiosity. Since then, I knew I wanted to dedicate my career to Artificial Intelligence and its different application in our world.”
When Alisa completed her degree, she started looking for a job and the Airbus opportunity to become a Data Analyst seemed to be the right step into her professional life. “When I saw the job offer at Airbus, it looked like a great opportunity to further advance in this domain, therefore it was a no-brainer for me to apply. As for many, my childhood dream was to become an astronaut. Today, I am working in the “backstage” of the aerospace industry and helping satellite projects to make their way to space, so I can say I am pretty close to my childhood dreams!” – says Alisa with sparkles in her eyes.
Although Alisa’s career has just started, she has rapidly taken onto additional responsibilities. She is in fact responsible for the technical coordination of two Research and Development studies related to Artificial Intelligence which are financed by space agencies. What Alisa likes the most in her daily working life is that no two days are alike. “My time flies and activities are very diversified – from brainstorming sessions with the team on the whiteboard, designing the best scenarios to problem solving, or implementing them in practice and evaluating their impact: it is almost guaranteed that you learn something new every day. Being continuously faced with exciting technical challenges and having the opportunity to communicate and collaborate with some of the brightest minds out there, makes me feel that working at Airbus is an experience like no other.”
Among the memorable experiences, Alisa remembers when she represented Airbus and her team during an Artificial Intelligence meetup event. “I had the privilege to speak about a project we ran on using linked data technologies to support the process of satellite engineering. It felt really good to share a glimpse of all the exciting things we are doing here!”
In addition to a brilliant start in her career, Alisa is also very active within the Airbus community. She is part of an Airbus-wide initiative called “Women in AI-RBUS” that aims to promote gender equality in STEM careers and the presence of women in positions related to Artificial Intelligence.
During her free time, Alisa enjoys photography and biking around Lake Constance. “Actually, that is another benefit of working in Friedrichshafen - you can go for a coffee break with your colleagues near the lake!”
